Common questions

Answers from our installation team

How many panels do I need for a 10-foot wall?
A 10-foot (120-inch) wall with a standard 8-foot ceiling needs 6 SoundPanel™ Regular panels (120 ÷ 23.6 = 5.08, rounded up to 6).
Do I need extra panels for cutting waste?
The calculator rounds up to the next whole panel. The wall preview shows exactly where to cut (red line + scissor icon) and how much material will be left over (the hatched area). For walls with many outlets or unusual angles, add 1 extra panel as insurance.
Can I install panels on only part of a wall?
Yes. Many customers cover only the section behind a TV, headboard, or fireplace. Measure just that section.
What if my wall is taller than the panels?
For walls taller than 94.5 inches, use SoundPanel™ Tall at 118.1 inches (covers up to 9.8 ft ceilings). Above 10 ft, stack Regular panels vertically.
How do I calculate for multiple walls?
Run the calculator separately for each wall and add the totals. Panels rarely divide evenly across rooms, so each wall measures independently.
What is the price per square foot?
SoundPanel™ Regular is about $13/ft² ($199 for 15.5 ft²). Comparable real-wood acoustic panels run $25 to $45/ft².

How to measure your wall

What you need

A 25 ft tape measure, a pencil, and paper. If measuring alone, painter's tape holds one end of the tape.

Measuring width

Measure horizontally from left edge to right edge, at roughly chest height. For an accent section, measure just that section. Note the number in inches.

Measuring height

Measure floor to ceiling. Standard US ceilings are 8 ft (96″). For 9 ft ceilings, SoundPanel™ Tall (118.1″) gives full coverage without cutting.

Outlets and switches

Do not subtract space for outlets or switches. The MDF cuts cleanly with a jigsaw. The installation guide covers marking and cutting openings.

Choosing the right panel

  • Regular (94.5″ / 7.9 ft): For standard 8 ft ceilings. Leaves a small gap at the top that can be trimmed or left as a floating effect.
  • Tall (118.1″ / 9.8 ft): For 9 to 10 ft ceilings. Full floor-to-ceiling coverage without seams.
  • GroovePanel® (23.6″ × 23.6″): Square tiles for feature walls, mosaic patterns, and smaller accents.

When to round up

Always round up. One extra panel covers cutting waste and future repairs. Cheaper than placing a second order and paying shipping again.
